Highlands
Founded in 1875, Highlands developed as a mountain retreat known for its cool climate and natural beauty. The establishment of Highlands Country Club in 1928 further shaped its reputation as a destination for summer living. Today, Highlands blends historic charm with a vibrant cultural scene, fine dining, and a strong sense of community.
Cashiers
Located just a short drive from Highlands, Cashiers traces its roots back to the early 1800s. Today, it remains a small but dynamic village surrounded by forests, lakes, and many of the Plateau’s most sought after club communities.
Glenville
Centered around Lake Glenville, the highest elevation lake east of the Mississippi River, Glenville offers a lake lifestyle paired with sweeping mountain views. Boating, fishing, and summer recreation are central to life here.
Sapphire Valley
Situated east of Cashiers, Sapphire Valley is known for its mix of mountain scenery and resort style amenities. With golf, hiking trails, waterfalls, and year round recreation, it offers a balance of relaxation and activity.
Lake Toxaway
Just beyond Sapphire, Lake Toxaway is home to North Carolina’s largest private lake and one of the region’s most historic resort communities, known for its scenic setting and established club lifestyle.
Scaly Mountain
Less than 9 miles from Highlands, Scaly Mountain offers a quieter setting with wide-ranging views and convenient access to both North Carolina and Georgia, providing a more relaxed mountain experience.
